lead lined panels
The use of x-ray equipment is essential for diagnosis and treatment within hospitals, dental surgeries and veterinary practices. Our high-pressure bonded lead lined panels provide complete protection against exposure to radiation for both staff and patients.
Radiation shielded lead lined plasterboard, plywood or MDF panels are manufactured to the highest possible standards within our UK workshop and comply with specific requirements for use in radiation protection.
Standard board size is 600mm x 2400mm in height but can be manufactured to any size. The lead thickness will be specified by a Radiation Protection Advisor (RPA). The thickness of the lead will increase to achieve various levels of radiation protection starting from 1.32mm (Code 3) to 3.55mm (Code 8).
To ensure full lead coverage across a wall or ceiling our radiation shielded lead lined panels come with lead battens for fixing to solid walls and ceilings (block work) or lead strips/fillets for fixing onto timber battens (stud work). Lead battens provide continuous shielding at board joints. Lead strips are used to provide further shielding at critical junctions such as internal or external corners.

Stud Walls
Our lead lined panels are made to order and comply with specific requirements for use in radiation protection.
Boards can be applied to a propriety metal stud system or timber stud walls. Lead strips/fillets are used to seal the radiation path where the boards abut at the joints. Fillets can be used up to code 5 (2.24mm) thick lead.
Brick & Block Walls
50mm wide lead battens are fixed to the walls at 600mm centres. The lead plasterboard is then applied direct to the battens with normal drywall screws.
The leaded battens also provide shielding at the joints.
Plaster Jointing

Lead plasterboard can be fixed with standard drywall screws. Up to code 5 lead, the joints can be shielded with lead joint strips.
The lead joint strip is screwed at the head of the stud, unrolled and cut to length. The boards are then overlaid and fixed in the normal way.

Code 6 and Code 7 boards should be jointed with the use of infill battens. The batten is inserted into the stud prior to the fixing of the lead board.
Lead plasterboard is only available square edged and should therefore be overlaid with tapered edge boards or finished with a skim coat.
Plasterboard Dimensions & Weights
Envirotect lead lined plasterboard is available in various lead thicknesses.
Lead thickness is increased to achieve various levels of radiation protection as advised by the RPA.
