CHAS (The Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme) was created by experienced health and safety professionals in 1997 to improve health and safety standards across the UK.
In partnership with the Association of London Government (ALG), CHAS was a key developer of the core criteria held in the Approved Code of Practice which supported the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007 (now recognised as CDM 2015) and is a founder member of SSIP (Safety Schemes in Procurement). As one of the founders of third party accreditation we are not only a trusted advisor on health and safety compliance, we are an authority. CHAS set industry benchmarks, provide assurance and reassurance, and offer best-in-class services that are easy to use and cost effective.
This health and safety legislation was created to achieve the following aims:
- To simplify health and safety contractor assessment by standardising requirements.
- To allow companies to avoid undergoing health and safety assessments for every job.
CHAS have more than 900 public and private sector client organisations and 70,000 contractors registered on the CHAS database.

The campaign was originally started by Stoves to celebrate British manufacturing the management of which has since been handed over to a committee made up of MDs and CEOs of UK manufacturing companies as well as other supporters of British manufacturing. Together they have formed a not-for-profit company called Made in Great Britain Campaign Limited.

The Royal Society of Medicine is one of the country’s major providers of postgraduate medical education. Independent and apolitical, the Society provides a neutral platform for informed debate about important, often controversial, healthcare topics.
The Society was established in 1805 as The Medical and Chirurgical Society of London, meeting in two rooms in barristers’ chambers at Gray’s Inn and then moving to Lincoln’s Inn Fields where it stayed for 25 years. In 1834 the Society moved to Berners Street and was granted a Royal Charter by King William IV.
In 1905, under the leadership of Sir John MacAlister, the Society moved to 20 Hanover Square where the centenary was celebrated. Two years later the Royal Medical and Chirurgical Society of London came together with seventeen specialist medical societies and, with a supplementary Royal Charter granted by Edward VII, became the Royal Society of Medicine.
In 1910 the Society acquired the site on the corner of Wimpole Street and Henrietta Place, which was opened by King George V and Queen Mary in May 1912.
